The Presence of a Missing Tooth Can Be Replaced by Installing a Bridge

Posted .

Missing a tooth due to decay, damage, or extraction can cause a series of complications in your mouth. While you will obviously be less efficient at chewing food, it could also leave you with an unappealing smile. In time the surrounding teeth might start to twist and turn in response to the missing structure in the area.

If you’ve lost a tooth, in some manner, Dr. Douglas Doran might recommend having it completely restored by a bridge. This is a standard piece of dental work that essentially mimics the appearance of a natural tooth. It is fused to a pair of crowns, anchored on abutments formed from the two neighboring teeth.

Dr. Douglas Doran will create the two abutments by removing the majority of the enamel layer of each of the anchoring teeth. This leaves behind two dentin sheaths that protects the pulp and root within, while providing the necessary structure to anchor your future bridge.

Dr. Douglas Doran will then take an impression of the two abutments, and the surrounding teeth. This impression we be sent to a dental lab where your permanent bridge is custom made. At the end of the appointment he will secure temporary crowns, over each abutment to protect them while the lab works on your permanent bridge.

Dr. Douglas Doran will call you back in once the dental lab has completed your bridge. The temporary crowns are removed and your new bridge is cemented in place.
