What is a mouth guard?
A mouth guard is a protective dental appliance that fits over your teeth to prevent dental damage and injury. At Rivereast Dental Group, we provide several types of custom-made mouth guards to meet your family’s needs. One of the most common types of mouth guards we provide is an athletic mouth guard, or sports guard. Dr. Douglas Doran may recommend a sports guard for your smile if you participate in sports and other athletic activities. Sports guards are especially important for high-contact sports like hockey, basketball, football, soccer, and boxing. To find out whether you or your family member would benefit from an athletic mouth guard, contact our office today.
What is a night guard?
We also provide night guards at our dental office. A night guard is a specialized mouth guard used to treat teeth grinding in Marlborough, Connecticut. This type of mouth guard is worn over your teeth while you sleep to prevent your teeth from grinding and clenching together as you sleep. You may need a night guard if you suffer from the effects of bruxism (teeth grinding and clenching), which often include frequent migraines and tension headaches, excessive tooth wear, and jaw and facial pain.
